Riyadh Air

Thirty new airline routes strengthen global tourism, linking Riyadh, Dubai, Taipei, Canada and Europe with emerging leisure destinations.

A major wave of airline route launches is reshaping international travel as carriers expand nonstop connectivity between global hubs, secondary cities and fast-growing tourism destinations.

Approximately 30 services launched or entered their operating phase around late June 2026, connecting markets across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North Africa. The expansion includes strategic long-haul flights, seasonal holiday routes and new links designed to strengthen airline hubs.

Although London, New York and Tokyo remain important global aviation centres, they are not directly served by every route in this particular launch cycle. The strongest verified developments centre on Riyadh, Dubai, Taipei, Washington, Canada and several European leisure gateways.

For travelers, the expansion creates more nonstop choices, shorter journeys and improved access to destinations that previously required connections through larger airports.

Riyadh Air Strengthens Saudi Arabia’s New Global Hub

Riyadh Air launched daily flights between Riyadh and Cairo on June 25 using Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, establishing one of the most strategically important routes in the latest expansion.

Cairo is among the busiest regional markets from Saudi Arabia, supported by tourism, family travel, business activity and substantial movement between the two capitals. Riyadh Air has identified a market of approximately 2.7 million annual passengers between Riyadh and Cairo.

The service is part of a wider network rollout that also includes London, Dubai, Jeddah, Madrid and Manchester. These routes are intended to support Saudi Arabia’s ambition to develop Riyadh into an international transfer hub serving more than 100 destinations by 2030.

Passengers traveling through Riyadh will gain additional options for connecting between Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia as the airline receives more Boeing 787 aircraft.

EVA Air Opens Taipei–Washington Gateway

EVA Air launched nonstop flights between Taipei and Washington Dulles on June 26, creating Taiwan’s first direct passenger connection with the United States capital region.

The four-weekly Boeing 787-9 service expands EVA Air’s North American passenger network to ten destinations. It also gives travelers from Washington access to onward connections through Taipei to cities across Japan, Southeast Asia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

The route is expected to serve government, technology, education, business and leisure traffic. It provides an alternative East Coast gateway to EVA Air’s established services across the United States and Canada.

For Asian visitors, Washington offers access to the US capital’s museums, monuments and cultural attractions, while American travelers gain a direct entry point into Taiwan’s tourism network.

Canada Gains New Iceland and European Connections

WestJet has opened seasonal nonstop services from Edmonton and Winnipeg to Keflavík, strengthening tourism links between Western Canada and Iceland.

Edmonton flights began on June 26, followed by Winnipeg on June 27. Both operate weekly during the summer season and complement WestJet’s returning Calgary–Keflavík service.

The routes support adventure tourism and provide Canadian travelers with access to Iceland’s waterfalls, geothermal landscapes and outdoor experiences. WestJet’s expanded partnership with Icelandair also creates onward connectivity from Keflavík to additional European destinations.

Air Canada is separately expanding its transatlantic network with three-weekly flights from Toronto to Ponta Delgada in the Azores and from Montreal to Nantes in western France.

The seasonal routes demonstrate how long-range single-aisle aircraft can make thinner transatlantic markets commercially viable without requiring large wide-body capacity.

European Airlines Target Mediterranean Tourism

Wizz Air and Volotea are expanding extensively across Europe’s seasonal leisure market.

Wizz Air’s additions connect Rome with Chania, Kefalonia, Menorca and Rhodes, improving direct access to Greek and Spanish island destinations. Other routes strengthen connectivity involving Tirana, Oradea, Sofia, Berlin and regional airports in Central and Eastern Europe.

Volotea’s network additions support tourism flows between France, Spain, Italy, Greece and Algeria. New services involving Lille, Limoges and Venice provide travelers with alternatives to journeys through major congested hubs.

These flights can create direct economic benefits for regional hotels, restaurants, attractions and transport operators while helping smaller airports capture international demand.

Dubai–Pokhara Route Unlocks Nepal Tourism

Flydubai’s Dubai–Pokhara route represents one of the most important tourism-focused additions in the new network cycle.

Pokhara is Nepal’s principal gateway for Himalayan trekking, adventure tourism and journeys into the Annapurna region. Direct access from Dubai can reduce travel time for visitors who previously needed to connect through Kathmandu before continuing by road or domestic flight.

The service also strengthens Dubai’s role as an aviation bridge between Nepal and markets across Europe, Africa and the Middle East.

Travelers Gain Most from Direct Regional Access

The biggest beneficiaries of the expansion are travelers living near secondary airports, tourism destinations seeking direct international access and passengers wanting to avoid additional hub connections.

However, many new routes are seasonal or operate only a few times each week. Travelers should check operating dates carefully, leave flexibility for limited-frequency services and compare baggage rules across low-cost and full-service carriers.

The broader message is clear: airlines are no longer directing all growth toward the world’s largest airports. New aircraft economics and strong leisure demand are allowing regional cities and emerging destinations to secure direct global connections, reshaping where international tourism can grow.
