Capella Hotel Group Accelerates Ultra-Luxury Expansion as Feisal Jaffer Takes Global Development Role

Capella Hotel Group has appointed Feisal Jaffer as Chief Development Officer, placing an experienced hospitality investment and development executive at the centre of its next phase of international growth.

Jaffer will lead the group’s worldwide development strategy across Capella Hotels and Resorts and Patina Hotels & Resorts. His responsibilities will include identifying new destinations, building partnerships with hotel owners and investors, advancing hospitality-led real estate platforms and expanding the company’s presence in strategically important luxury travel markets.

The appointment comes as Capella Hotel Group prepares to scale a growing collection of culturally driven hotels, resorts and residences. The company has outlined plans to double its portfolio by 2030 while preserving the personalised service, destination storytelling and design-led experiences that distinguish its two brands.

Capella Hotels and Resorts has also entered the expansion period with strong international recognition, having been named the world’s leading hotel brand for three consecutive years. Meanwhile, Patina is building momentum following its arrival in Japan and ahead of further growth in China.

New Openings Strengthen Luxury Travel Network

Capella Hotel Group’s development pipeline includes properties in several culturally significant and fast-growing tourism destinations.

Capella Nanjing is anticipated to open by the end of 2026, increasing the group’s presence in China. Additional projects are planned for Riyadh and Florence, extending the company into important Middle Eastern and European luxury markets.

Capella Florence, scheduled for 2027, will mark the brand’s European debut. Located in the historic centre of the Italian city, the hotel is being developed within a collection of former convent buildings, aligning heritage preservation with contemporary hospitality.

The group’s Patina brand is also expanding internationally. Patina Osaka has established a foothold in Japan, while Patina Tianjin is expected to introduce the lifestyle-focused brand to China.

These developments reflect Capella Hotel Group’s strategy of selecting destinations with strong cultural identities, premium tourism demand and long-term potential for luxury hotel and residential investment.

Jaffer Returns After Shaping Landmark Projects

Jaffer’s appointment represents a return to a business where he previously helped shape several major developments.

Between 2014 and 2019, he held senior roles with Pontiac Land Group and worked closely with Capella Hotel Group on international investment and development opportunities. During that period, he contributed to the Fari Islands project in the Maldives, which later became the foundation for Patina Maldives.

He was also involved in the Sydney Sandstones development process, which ultimately led to the creation of Capella Sydney. The hotel combines heritage architecture with modern luxury hospitality and has become one of the group’s most prominent international properties.

Jaffer additionally participated in the early development of Patina Hotels & Resorts, helping establish the strategic foundations of a brand now positioned around contemporary design, sustainability, creativity and experience-led travel.

Evan Kwee, Vice Chairman of Capella Hotel Group, said Jaffer had played a central role in several of the organisation’s most significant projects and understood the full range of disciplines involved in luxury hospitality development.

Global Experience Supports Portfolio Growth

Before returning to Capella, Jaffer served as Global Head of LXR Hotels & Resorts at Hilton Worldwide. Under his leadership, the brand expanded from a single hotel into a portfolio of more than 40 operating and pipeline properties across five continents.

His work also involved the positioning of wider luxury hotel brands across the Americas, strengthening his experience in owner relations, brand development and international market entry.

Earlier in his career, Jaffer held investment and development positions with Host Hotels & Resorts, GIC Real Estate and Fairmont Raffles Hotels International. Across nearly three decades, he participated in hospitality transactions valued at more than US$2.5 billion.

This combination of hotel operations, real estate investment and brand development experience is expected to support Capella Hotel Group as it pursues expansion without weakening the identity of individual properties.

Roland Fasel, President of Capella Hotel Group, said Jaffer brings deep relationships across institutional and private capital, together with a strong commercial perspective and detailed understanding of the group’s brands.

Hospitality-Led Real Estate Drives Future Strategy

The new leadership structure also signals greater emphasis on hospitality-driven real estate, including branded residences and mixed-use destinations.

Luxury hotel groups are increasingly combining accommodation, private residences, wellness facilities, dining and cultural programming within integrated developments. These projects can create deeper relationships with destinations while generating long-term value for owners and investors.

For travellers, the model supports more immersive experiences by connecting hotels with local heritage, architecture, food and lifestyle. For destinations, internationally recognised luxury properties can attract higher-spending visitors, encourage investment and support employment across hospitality and related services.

Jaffer said Capella and Patina represent rare brands with a distinctive identity and genuine sense of place. He described his return as an opportunity to help create the next generation of destinations under both names.

With a stronger development team, an expanding international pipeline and a target to double its portfolio by 2030, Capella Hotel Group is positioning itself for a significant new chapter in global ultra-luxury hospitality.
