Argentina’s domestic aviation network will expand during the fourth quarter of 2026 as JetSMART launches two daily routes connecting Buenos Aires Aeroparque with Jujuy and Posadas, strengthening access to northern and northeastern destinations while supporting tourism, business mobility and regional economic development.
The Buenos Aires–Jujuy service is scheduled to begin on October 1, initially using an Airbus A321neo. JetSMART plans to transition the route to an Airbus A320neo from November 1. Daily flights between Buenos Aires and Posadas will follow on November 3, operated with an Airbus A320.
The additions will provide passengers with more scheduling flexibility and introduce extra capacity into Argentina’s increasingly competitive domestic aviation market. They will also make Jujuy and Misiones provinces more accessible to international visitors entering the country through Buenos Aires.
Jujuy Gains Daily Access from Buenos Aires
The new service to San Salvador de Jujuy will strengthen air access to one of Argentina’s most distinctive cultural and natural tourism regions.
Jujuy attracts travellers with its mountain landscapes, traditional communities, indigenous heritage, colourful geological formations and high-altitude adventure experiences. The province includes the Quebrada de Humahuaca, a celebrated cultural landscape that follows an important historic route through the Andes.
Maimará, one of Jujuy’s rural destinations, has also gained international recognition for its tourism appeal, reinforcing the province’s growing position within Argentina’s diversified visitor economy.
A daily nonstop flight from centrally located Buenos Aires Aeroparque could encourage more short breaks and multi-destination itineraries. Visitors arriving internationally in the capital will be able to continue towards northern Argentina without travelling to another Buenos Aires airport.
The route may also support year-round demand beyond traditional holiday periods, benefiting accommodation providers, restaurants, guides, transport companies and community-based tourism enterprises.
Posadas Route Supports Misiones Tourism
JetSMART’s daily Posadas service will improve access to the capital of Misiones Province and its surrounding cultural and ecological attractions.
Located beside the Paraná River, Posadas offers a waterfront, regional gastronomy, cultural venues and accommodation services. It also acts as an important starting point for journeys through Misiones, including visits to the province’s historic Jesuit missions.
The ruins of San Ignacio Miní, Santa Ana and Nuestra Señora de Loreto are located along a recognised tourism corridor accessible from Posadas. Greater air capacity could help tour operators combine these heritage attractions with nature-focused itineraries elsewhere in the province.
Although Puerto Iguazú remains the principal air gateway for Iguazú Falls, additional flights to Posadas will provide travellers with another entry point to Misiones and support the development of broader itineraries across northeastern Argentina.
Hotels, restaurants, vehicle-rental companies and local attractions may benefit as improved connectivity encourages longer stays and disperses tourism spending beyond established visitor centres.
Buenos Aires Aeroparque Expands Its Hub Role
Aeroparque Jorge Newbery is one of Argentina’s most important domestic and regional aviation hubs. Its location close to central Buenos Aires makes it attractive to residents, business travellers and international visitors transferring between flights.
The addition of Jujuy and Posadas strengthens its role as a gateway to Argentina’s provinces. Travellers will gain direct access to both destinations without requiring connecting flights through alternative airports.
For corporate passengers, the daily schedules will reduce journey times between Buenos Aires and regional institutions, businesses, universities and public authorities.
The Jujuy service may support professionals linked to mining, education, government and regional development. Meanwhile, Posadas has commercial importance within Argentina’s northeastern corridor and maintains close economic connections with neighbouring areas of Paraguay and Brazil.
Modern Airbus Aircraft Support Expansion
JetSMART will use Airbus narrow-body aircraft across the new services. The larger A321neo will initially provide capacity on the Jujuy route before the airline moves to an A320neo in November, while the Posadas service will use an Airbus A320.
New-generation aircraft can improve fuel efficiency and operating performance compared with older models, helping airlines manage costs while increasing domestic capacity.
This operational flexibility is particularly important for low-cost carriers, which depend on efficient aircraft utilisation and carefully matched capacity to maintain competitive fares.
Passengers should review the fare conditions attached to their booking because baggage, seat selection, changes and other services may require additional payment.
Regional Networks Strengthen South American Travel
Although the two routes are domestic, they form part of JetSMART’s wider South American network spanning markets including Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Peru and Uruguay.
International visitors arriving from neighbouring countries will gain easier access to Jujuy and Posadas through Buenos Aires. This could support combined South American journeys and strengthen Argentina’s links with regional tourism markets.
Greater connectivity also encourages visitors to travel beyond Buenos Aires, Patagonia and other internationally established destinations. By improving access to northern provinces, airlines can help distribute tourism demand more widely and generate economic benefits in communities that depend on hospitality and visitor spending.
Competition Creates More Passenger Choice
The new routes reflect continued confidence in Argentina’s domestic travel market. Increased airline competition can provide passengers with broader schedules, additional seats and more fare options.
Reliable daily operations will be essential to the routes’ long-term performance. Strong demand from tourists, families and business travellers could also create opportunities for future frequency increases.
JetSMART’s expansion gives Argentina another platform for strengthening national air connectivity while making its diverse regions more accessible. For Jujuy and Posadas, the new daily flights represent more than additional transport capacity. They create fresh opportunities for tourism development, commercial exchange and closer integration with Buenos Aires and the wider South American aviation market.
