Air Canada is preparing a broader set of travel benefits for eligible Canadian Aeroplan credit cardholders in 2027. The changes include a 15% points reduction on qualifying Air Canada flight rewards, annual travel credits and new savings when members redeem points for hotels and car rentals.
Premium cardholders are also set to receive wider Maple Leaf Lounge access and priority security at participating airports. Together, the additions extend the value of the cards beyond earning points on everyday purchases.
The benefits have different start dates and eligibility rules. Travellers planning a redemption should check the terms of their particular card before counting on a discount, credit or airport service.
Flight Rewards Offer More Points Value
From 12 January 2027, primary Aeroplan credit cardholders will receive a 15% reduction in the points required for eligible Air Canada flight rewards. The benefit can help members use accumulated points for travel while retaining more of their balance for a future booking.
The reduction concerns qualifying reward redemptions rather than a 15% discount on every cash airfare. Members should check the points total and any applicable taxes or charges when comparing itineraries.
Air Canada has also advertised a separate, limited 15% flight reward offer for eligible Canadian primary cardholders before the permanent benefit begins. Its booking window ends on 11 January 2027, subject to the offer’s conditions.
For travellers considering an international trip, a clearer points reduction could make it easier to assess whether a reward booking fits their plans. The final value will still depend on the itinerary and points price available when they book.
AC Wallet Credits Add an Annual Benefit
The updated portfolio will introduce Air Canada travel credits through AC Wallet. Eligible premium cardholders can receive up to CAD 100 annually, divided into two CAD 50 credits. Eligible core cardholders can receive up to CAD 50, divided into two CAD 25 credits.
The first credit is expected from 15 January 2027. Splitting the annual amount into two instalments means cardholders should review when each credit becomes available and how it can be used.
AC Wallet gives Aeroplan members a place to hold eligible Air Canada travel credit. For cardholders who regularly book the airline, the new benefit could provide a modest saving on a future eligible purchase.
The amount depends on card tier. Travellers comparing cards should consider the travel benefits they expect to use alongside each card’s fees and conditions.
Hotel and Car Rewards Support Longer Trips
Aeroplan is also broadening its non-flight redemptions. An eligible four-day car rental booked with points will gain a fourth day free, adding value for travellers who need transport after arriving at their destination.
That benefit may appeal to visitors planning a road trip or exploring places beyond a city centre. Its usefulness will depend on qualifying rental availability and the points required for the booking.
Meanwhile, the fourth-night-free hotel benefit is set to become permanent from 12 January 2027. Eligible cardholders who redeem points for a qualifying four-night stay will receive the fourth night free.
The hotel offer has previously operated as a limited promotion. Making it an ongoing benefit gives members more certainty when planning longer stays, although participating properties and booking conditions still matter.
Premium Cards Gain Wider Airport Access
Eligible premium cardholders and one companion will gain access to Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounges worldwide under the expanded benefit. This extends the lounge advantage beyond the North American locations previously available through qualifying cards.
Premium cardholders will also gain priority security access at participating airports for themselves and up to eight companions on the same reservation. Availability will depend on the airport and the applicable access rules.
These changes target practical parts of the journey. Lounge access can offer a place to sit or work before departure, while priority security may make the airport process more convenient where the service is offered.
Existing benefits, including qualifying checked baggage and priority boarding privileges, will continue. Premium cards also retain other eligible airport and status-related advantages.
Aeroplan Links Spending With Travel
The changes reinforce Aeroplan’s role across flights, accommodation, ground transport and airport services. Members can earn points through eligible card spending, then use those rewards at different stages of a trip.
For frequent Air Canada passengers, the strongest value may come from combining several benefits: a flight reward, an eligible hotel redemption and airport privileges on the same journey. Other members may find one benefit more useful than the full package.
