Arajet Launches Direct Punta Cana–Rosario Flights, Unlocking Affordable Caribbean Travel from Argentina

Argentina’s Rosario and the Dominican Republic’s Punta Cana have entered a new phase of international connectivity following the launch of Arajet’s direct service between the two destinations. The new route, which began operating from Punta Cana on 16 June 2026, provides travellers with a faster and more convenient link between central Argentina and one of the Caribbean’s leading resort destinations.

The Dominican low-cost airline is operating three weekly frequencies on the route, using Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. The service removes the need for many passengers to connect through Buenos Aires or another regional hub, widening access to Caribbean holidays for travellers across Rosario and the surrounding provinces.

The first flight departed Punta Cana on 16 June and arrived at Rosario’s Islas Malvinas International Airport on 17 June. Its introduction strengthens Argentina’s expanding network of international services from provincial airports and supports wider efforts to decentralise air travel beyond the capital.

New Direct Route Supports Affordable International Travel

Arajet’s low-cost model is expected to make Punta Cana more accessible to Argentine holidaymakers seeking competitive international fares. Direct service also reduces journey complexity, particularly for families, leisure groups and travellers who previously faced additional domestic flights or long connecting itineraries.

The airline’s booking platform has advertised one-way fares on the route at varying promotional levels, although prices depend on travel dates, demand and optional services. Lower base fares can help broaden the Caribbean market by attracting passengers who may previously have considered the journey too expensive or inconvenient.

Using the Boeing 737 MAX 8 also supports Arajet’s strategy of operating an efficient, single-aisle fleet across medium-haul routes in the Americas. The aircraft offers the range required to connect Argentina with the Dominican Republic while helping the airline manage fuel use and operating expenses.

Rosario Gains Stronger International Air Access

The new route arrives during a period of rapid aviation growth in Rosario. Official transport figures show that the city increased from 10 weekly international frequencies in December 2023 to 35 weekly frequencies by June 2026.

Rosario has also gained other international links, including service to Lima, strengthening its role as an increasingly important gateway for Argentina’s central region. This expanded route network gives travellers more opportunities to fly internationally without travelling first to Buenos Aires.

For Rosario’s visitor economy, improved connectivity may support hotels, restaurants, tour operators, cultural venues and transport providers. International passengers can explore the city’s Paraná River waterfront, National Flag Memorial, Independence Park, museums, boulevards and established culinary scene.

The destination offers an alternative urban experience for travellers looking beyond Argentina’s most familiar tourism centres. Better air access could also encourage longer stays and combined itineraries connecting Rosario with other parts of Santa Fe Province and central Argentina.

Punta Cana Strengthens Its Role as a Regional Gateway

Punta Cana remains one of the Dominican Republic’s most recognised tourism destinations, supported by an extensive resort sector, international airport capacity and strong demand for beach holidays. The new Rosario connection expands its reach in Argentina while supporting the Dominican Republic’s broader tourism and aviation development.

Argentine travellers will gain direct access to Punta Cana’s resorts, beaches, golf courses, excursions and leisure attractions. The route may appeal particularly to families, honeymooners and groups seeking all-inclusive Caribbean holidays without complicated transfers.

Punta Cana also functions as an increasingly important operating base within Arajet’s network. Passengers travelling from Rosario may be able to access onward services across the Caribbean, North America and other parts of Latin America, depending on schedules and connection availability.

This wider network potential strengthens Punta Cana’s position not only as a final holiday destination but also as a connecting point for regional travel.

Argentina’s Provincial Aviation Market Expands

The Punta Cana–Rosario service forms part of a broader rise in direct international travel from Argentina’s provincial airports. By May 2026, weekly international frequencies from airports outside Buenos Aires had doubled from 85 in 2023 to 170.

During the first four months of 2026, more than one million passengers travelled directly between provincial Argentine airports and international destinations without passing through Buenos Aires. That represented substantial growth compared with the previous three years.

Argentina’s airports also recorded their strongest-ever passenger performance for the January-to-May period in 2026, handling more than 21.4 million passengers. International traffic reached approximately 7.77 million travellers during those five months, reflecting expanding demand and the addition of new routes and operators.

These trends indicate that travellers increasingly value direct access from regional cities. Airlines can also reach previously underserved markets while destinations benefit from a more geographically diverse visitor base.

Tourism and Economic Opportunities Grow

The direct Arajet route is expected to benefit both destinations by supporting leisure travel, visiting friends and relatives, business journeys and cultural exchange. Rosario gains direct access to a major Caribbean tourism hub, while Punta Cana receives a new flow of potential visitors from Argentina’s central provinces.

The service may also stimulate competition by giving passengers another international airline option and encouraging the development of additional point-to-point routes.

As regional aviation networks continue to expand, the Punta Cana–Rosario connection demonstrates how direct low-cost services can reduce travel barriers, support local economies and bring distant tourism markets closer together.
