Cambodia is expanding international flight connections after tourist arrivals fell 43.7% in the first nine months of 2026. The country received approximately 2.46 million international visitors between January and September, down from 4.37 million during the same period in 2025.
The aviation changes are at different stages. China Eastern Airlines has added a weekly Kunming–Siem Reap flight, while T’way Air plans daily seasonal services from Seoul. Air Cambodia is preparing to restore flights between Phnom Penh and Vientiane and has proposed a Vladivostok connection through Sanya.
The services give Cambodia two opportunities to rebuild demand. Phnom Penh could gain a stronger link for regional itineraries, while Siem Reap gets more capacity from Northeast Asia.
Vientiane Flights Could Simplify Regional Holidays
Air Cambodia plans to resume direct flights between Phnom Penh and Vientiane in mid-December 2026. The service would connect Techo International Airport with Wattay International Airport on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
The restored route would give visitors a direct way to combine the Cambodian and Lao capitals in one trip. That could help tour operators organise multi-country holidays that also include Vietnam or Thailand.
For travellers on shorter itineraries, the three weekly departures make timing important. A tour operator could build a package around a Friday departure, for example, while leaving time for stays in both capitals. The connection could also serve business travellers and people visiting relatives.
Seoul And Kunming Add Capacity For Angkor Visits
T’way Air plans daily flights between Seoul Incheon and Siem Reap from 24 December 2026 to 3 March 2027. The seasonal service is scheduled to use Boeing 737-800 aircraft during Cambodia’s peak tourism period.
China Eastern Airlines increased its Kunming–Siem Reap service from three to four weekly flights on 25 October 2026. Its expanded schedule runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, also using Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
Siem Reap is the main gateway to Angkor Archaeological Park, where visitors can explore Angkor Wat and surrounding temples. Daily Seoul flights could give South Korean holidaymakers more flexibility over their length of stay. The additional Kunming departure gives travellers from southwestern China another option when arranging a tour or independent holiday.
Hotels, guides and transfer operators could benefit if those seats translate into overnight stays and bookings. How much business reaches each provider will depend on what passengers choose to do after arrival.
Proposed Vladivostok Service Would Stop In Sanya
Air Cambodia is also preparing a proposed Phnom Penh–Vladivostok route via Sanya in southern China. The intermediate stop would make it a one-stop service between Cambodia and Russia’s Far East.
The route could give Russian travellers another way to reach Phnom Penh for holidays or business. It remains a proposal, with the operating schedule and booking arrangements still to be confirmed.
For travel companies assessing the route, the practical questions are how often it would operate and how long passengers would spend in Sanya. Those details would help determine whether the journey suits a standalone Cambodia holiday or a wider regional itinerary.
Visitor Figures Show Pressure Across Several Markets
Vietnam remained an important source of visitors, with 651,486 arrivals during the first nine months of 2026, down 28%. Arrivals from China fell 27.6% to approximately 643,314, while those from the United States declined 5.6% to 140,276.
The aviation figures cover a different period and measure passenger traffic. Cambodia recorded approximately 3.71 million international air passengers between January and July 2026, down 9% year on year. Flight movements fell around 1% to 37,248.
The figures give tourism businesses two distinct measures to watch. Visitor arrivals show the scale of the inbound downturn, while passenger traffic provides context for airlines deciding where to add capacity.
Winter Bookings Will Test The New Connections
For Cambodia’s tourism businesses, the route changes open different opportunities. Siem Reap hotels and guides can build stays around the Seoul and Kunming schedules, while Phnom Penh operators can prepare itineraries that include Vientiane.
Travellers planning around the winter timetable should check that their dates fall within the published operating periods. That matters particularly for Seoul, where the daily service is scheduled to end on 3 March, and for routes awaiting launch.
The clearest test will come after the winter season. Passenger bookings will show whether travellers use the extra seats, while overnight stays will help show whether the improved access is bringing more business to Cambodian destinations.
