In a major push to standardize guest amenities across its global fleet, Norwegian Cruise Line has unveiled extensive shipboard transformations aboard two of its popular Jewel-class vessels, Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Gem. The comprehensive refurbishments introduce expanded thermal spa suites, exclusive adults-only outdoor retreats, new food and beverage offerings, and updated global cruise itineraries.
The fleet enhancements reflect growing demand among modern cruise passengers for personalized wellness experiences, premium outdoor leisure spaces, and brand-name culinary options while sailing to destination-rich regions.
Comprehensive Thermal Suite Enhancements at Mandara Spa
A central focus of the modernization program involves a complete redesign of the award-winning Mandara Spa and Salon Thermal Suite facilities aboard both ships. Designed around passenger feedback, the updated spa layouts feature three times as many signature heated tile loungers, a centralized reception area, and upgraded steam and sauna rooms.
The expanded wellness suites introduce several specialized therapeutic amenities:
Charcoal Saunas: Utilizing radiant heat technology encased in an outer charcoal layer to promote circulation, reduce muscle tension, and assist with natural detoxification.
Ice Rooms: Offering crisp, cooled air environments designed to invigorate the respiratory tract and accelerate post-sauna recovery.

Meanwhile, Norwegian Gem has been outfitted with an updated hot tub and a specialized thalassotherapy pool, which combines targeted massage jets, bubble loungers, and counter-current flows to relieve joint tension and improve circulation.
Adults-Only Vibe Beach Club Added to Upper Deck Areas
To expand exclusive outdoor lounging space, Norwegian Cruise Line repurposed the former open sundecks on Deck 14 of both Norwegian Jade and Norwegian Gem into dedicated, adults-only Vibe Beach Clubs.
The open-air venues provide expansive ocean views, an additional hot tub, a full-service private bar, more than 50 premium lounge chairs, and seven private cabanas available for daily or voyage-long rentals. The addition brings two of the line’s classic ships into alignment with newer Breakaway and Prima-class vessels that feature similar private outdoor spaces.
In addition to outdoor leisure upgrades, Norwegian Jade has added a full-service, licensed Starbucks store on board. Serving the global coffee chain’s standard menu of handcrafted espresso drinks, teas, and seasonal offerings, the addition reinforces Norwegian’s standing as the first commercial cruise operator to feature licensed Starbucks locations across its entire fleet and private island destinations.
Diverse Deployment Strategy Across Alaska, Europe, and Asia
The newly refreshed vessels are actively deployed across key global cruise regions, offering a diverse array of seasonal itineraries:
Norwegian Jade (Alaska & Asia): Operating seven-day Alaska sailings through late summer from Vancouver, British Columbia, and Whittier (Anchorage), Alaska. Itineraries feature scenic transits of the Inside Passage and glacier bays, alongside port calls in Ketchikan, Juneau, Skagway, and Icy Strait Point. Following its North American summer season, the ship relocates to Asia to operate extended regional voyages.
Norwegian Gem (Mediterranean & Caribbean): Sailing a series of Mediterranean and Greek Isles routes departing from Rome (Civitavecchia) and Venice (Ravenna), Italy. Destinations include Cannes, Livorno (Florence/Pisa), Split, Dubrovnik, and various Greek islands. Later in the year, the vessel shifts homeports to Tampa, Florida, to execute Caribbean and Bahamas itineraries.
