Jamaica is rebuilding its winter accommodation offering as major resorts resume operations and others prepare to welcome guests before Christmas 2026. The phased recovery follows Hurricane Melissa’s damage in October 2025, which disrupted hotels and businesses dependent on international visitors.
Royalton Negril and several other established properties are already operating. Meanwhile, Sandals and Bahia Principe have announced further returns during November and December.
The reopening programme broadens options for families, couples and luxury travellers. However, recovery remains uneven, with several hotels scheduled to stay closed until 2027.
Sandals Plans Three Returns Before Christmas
Sandals South Coast is scheduled to reopen on 18 November 2026, restoring approximately 392 rooms in Whitehouse, Westmoreland.
Its reopening programme includes improvements to waterfront facilities, restaurants, landscaping and guest amenities.
Sandals Montego Bay is scheduled to return on 18 December, following upgrades involving its swimming pool, dining facilities and other experiences.
Sandals Caribbean Cay, formerly Sandals Royal Caribbean, is also scheduled to reopen on 18 December.
Its transformation includes refreshed accommodation, dining improvements and enhancements to the private offshore island.
These planned returns will expand adults-only, all-inclusive choices. Travellers should confirm operational readiness before arranging stays close to the announced dates.
Runaway Bay Prepares For Additional Capacity
Bahia Principe Grand Jamaica is scheduled to reopen on 1 December 2026, adding another accommodation option in Runaway Bay.
The property’s return could support family holidays and larger-scale beachfront stays along Jamaica’s northern coastline.
It will complement Bahia Principe Luxury Runaway Bay, which is already listed as operating.
The distinction matters because the properties serve different holiday preferences. Travellers should check the exact resort name when comparing packages and confirming reservations.
Additional guests could create opportunities for excursion providers, restaurants and transport businesses around St. Ann.
However, the reopening announcement does not quantify the additional spending or employment attributable to the resort’s return.
Royalton And Other Resorts Already Welcome Guests
Royalton Negril reopened on 25 August 2026, providing an established accommodation option ahead of the winter season.
Hideaway at Royalton Negril and Grand Lido Negril are also listed as operational.
In Montego Bay, Half Moon reopened its Eclipse accommodation and villas in April. That reopening should not automatically be interpreted as confirmation about every part of the property.
JOIA Rose Hall by Iberostar, Iberostar Selection Rose Hall Suites and Iberostar Waves Rose Hall Beach are also listed as open.
Their availability gives travellers alternatives while other resorts complete restoration and preparations.
Operating Hotels Span Several Resort Areas
Princess Grand Jamaica and Princess Senses The Mangrove are operating in Green Island, Hanover, adding family and adults-only accommodation choices.
Royalton Blue Waters and Royalton Hideaway Blue Waters are also open in Trelawny.
In Ocho Rios, Moon Palace Jamaica and RIU Ocho Rios provide further options for international holidaymakers.
The geographical spread matters because visitors can compare different resort areas rather than concentrate only on one destination.
Nevertheless, an operating hotel may have specific arrangements affecting individual facilities or services.
Guests should confirm which restaurants, pools, entertainment programmes and other amenities will be available during their intended stay.
Room Restoration Will Continue Through 2027
Jamaica’s Ministry of Tourism expects more than 11,000 hotel rooms to return across 2026 and 2027.
Approximately 1,900 rooms are projected for December 2026, followed by another 3,500 during the first quarter of 2027.
These figures describe projected capacity restoration rather than completed room availability.
Properties scheduled to return during 2027 include Hyatt Ziva Rose Hall, Hyatt Zilara Rose Hall, Breathless Montego Bay and Jewel Grande.
Secrets St. James and Secrets Wild Orchid also feature in the later reopening programme.
The extended timetable demonstrates that Jamaica’s hospitality recovery will continue beyond the approaching festive season.
Confirmed Availability Matters For Winter Bookings
Travellers planning Christmas, New Year or early 2027 holidays should verify their chosen resort’s status before committing to arrangements.
A planned reopening date does not establish that every advertised facility will be ready simultaneously.
Package customers should review accommodation details alongside cancellation and modification conditions, particularly where a stay begins shortly after reopening.
For local businesses, restored hotel capacity can support demand for supplies, transfers and visitor experiences.
Actual results will also depend on flight availability, bookings, prices and traveller spending.
Jamaica’s growing accommodation choice provides a foundation for recovery. The practical priority is matching confirmed resort operations with clear expectations about the holiday experience.
